Wattsup Montauk - LICKSHOT 15
by Ben Watts
Digital Archival Print
Wattsup Montauk is a collection of images taken from the monograph as well as an archival survey of Ben Watts's 30 year career in photography. Montauk Dreaming is a vibrant celebration of the Long Island town that London-born photographer Ben Watts (born 1967) has called home since 1995. A "paradise three hours outside the walls of the greatest city in the world," as Watts calls it, Montauk has exploded in recent years, going from a sleepy beach town to a major summer cultural destination.
Lickshot is Ben Watts' highly personalized scrapbook and travel diary. A triumph of lo-fi style, its pages are a gritty pastiche of wonky Polaroids and other photographs, and hand-scrawled graffiti held together by slashes of colored tape. Its contents reflect the vast variety of Watts'sphotographic subjects—from high school ice skaters, Brooklyn biker gangs, and lounging sunbathers to world-famous actors, supermodels, and today's hottest musicians.
In this shot, Watts captures the presence of graffiti in New York City.
The photographs are printed on Luster paper by Milk Digital.
