British-born photographer Platon is internationally celebrated for his powerful, up-close portraits of world leaders and iconic figures. Capturing portraits for a wide range of international publications including Time Magazine, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, New York Times Magazine, and Vanity Fair, he has produced a body of work that has been featured on more than 70 magazine covers and received awards including first prize at the World Press Photo Contest, the New Yorker’s National Magazine Award, the Peabody Award and the American Society of Magazine Editors’ National Magazine Award.
Platon’s work has been displayed throughout galleries and in museum collections across the globe. His portfolio is vast, ranging from a highly celebrated series of Civil Rights photographs to a collection of portraits of more than 100 world leaders such as Barack Obama, Mahmoud Ahmedinejad, Hugo Chavez, Robert Mugabe, and Muammar Gaddafi. In 2013, Platon founded a nonprofit called The People's Portfolio, an organization that aspires to create a visual language for breaking barriers, expanding dignity, fighting discrimination, and enlisting the public to support human rights around the world.
SERVICE emphasizes the tremendous sacrifices made by American women and men in uniform, their families and loved ones. Platon’s work is not only beautiful but has an unwavering vision about what it means to be human and possess humanity.
