Photographs From the American Southwest - Somebody's Bed (TX)
Digital archival print
New York native Dan Martensen began taking road trips to the American Southwest in 2001, drawn to the beautiful decay and abandonment of the desert environment.
This print was displayed during Martensen's Milk Gallery show, Photographs from the American Southwest, a collection of his photographs from 2001 to 2011, depicting a world of Jesus Christ billboards, foreclosure signs and big-box stores, pitched against the backdrop of the lonely desert landscape.
This shot of a forlorn mattress lying in the dirt conveys a sense of loss.
